  • Retired to Stud Co-Organizer Paul McAlary's team wins 4 straight to take the tournament.
• Sat March 29, 1997 -- Scrimmage with Hoover and Diablo
  • 12 noon at Belmont Avenue and Levering Mill Road
  • Round I Retired to Stud over Hoover (8-1)
    • Studs happy to show their rivals they didn't belong in a college pool
    • Excellent on-field leadership from Mark Rosser
    • Hoover missing many veterans: Vasallo, Hansen, Rosie, Woody, Griff, etc
  • Giftgiving -- the Australian tradition of giving each team a special gift. . .
    • RTS's Mark Mittin (aka Pickleman) gave each team a wrapped gift.
    • Diablo's Andy L. received a jar of devilishly hot horseradish (with El Diablo on the label)
    • Hoover's Gamal S. received a gag gift -- a full Hoover bag of dirt (with . . . well see for yourself)
  • Round II Diablo over Hoover (8-2)
    • Diablo demolished the enthusiastic but less experienced Hoover
  • Round III Retired to Stud tied Diablo (5-5)
    • Down 5-1, things looked grim for the Studs
    • Studs rallied to tie the game
    • RTS's Joe Mroz laid out to prevent Diablo's go-ahead goal. We wish Joe a speedy recovery from the nasty blow he took after catching the disc.

    • Menamena runs up points as age, fatigue and mud take their toll

  • Retired to Stud goes 3-1 in pool play
    • Studs show poise and control in first three games
  • Round I Retired to Stud over Hammerhead (13-12)
    • Studs get 2 upwind goals to make the game 6-2
    • Hammerhead rolls over Studs zone in a lull in the wind, scoring many straight points to tie at 12's
    • Hammerhead unable to capitalize on 3 Studs turnovers on final point of game
    • Studs' Co-Organizer Paul throws game-winning 50%er hammer to John McDonough
    • Hammerhead's first of three close losses (by 1, 2, and 1 point -- ugh!)
  • Round II Retired to Stud over Skootch (13-2)
    • Skootch later narrowly defeated Hammerhead
  • Round III Retired to Stud over Stonybrook (13-5)
    • Getting 3 in a row in the second half, Stonybrook refused to yield
  • Round IV Retired to Stud destroyed by Diablo (3-11)
    • Interestingly, Diablo also only beat Hammerhead by one point
    • RTS looks forward to playing Diablo earlier in the day, in less mud
  • Overall Retired to Stud had a good first day of the tourney
    • Dr. Rich Katz and Dr. John Epstein joined Dr. Dillon, Dr. Kuo and Dr. Gil on Studs
    • In an added bonus, veteran Bill from Havoc joined the Studs

  • Stud John Rice went to the 3rd Annual Middlebury Go Ho, Get Lei'd Tourney where his team, TLC (Tastes Like Chicken) won the tournament and the spirit award.
  • Congrats to Hoover's impressive 6-1 record; 2nd in C Division!
