Bid procedure: send me an email with check no. and the date I'll see on the postmark.
That'll give you a constructive receipt as of the date you mailed the check

avoids the need to rely on expensive Express Mail or FedEx charges.

Payment: checks trump promises to pay. This tourney will likely fill,
so kindly get your checks in ASAP. I'll have a list of registered teams
up as checks roll in. Check due date: September 1, 1998.
RAIN OR SHINE WE PLAY. However, if there has been substantial rain, then
the tournament may be cancelled. In that event, team contacts
would receive a partial refund (minus any expenses already incurred by the
tourney director).

First, thanks for your interest in RTS 4. We are going to raise the lion's share of $1,000 on September 12 for SILOAM, the event's charity. Thanks for reading this email, and getting back to me with your questions, comments, support, and concerns. Thanks for all the phone calls, emails, etc. you've had to do to whip your teammates into commitments to make the tourney happen.
I want to make a special welcome to Freestyle Frisbee, a new team to the ultimate scene. If you're lucky enough to play them, make sure you're especially Spirited so we can show them what organized ultimate is all about. Don't try to sell them pool passes.
Each team can expect 3 games, and some will have 4 games. In rare circumstances a team may wind up having 5 games. You'll have a bye or two, and I'll try to keep them to a minimum. After having suffered through back-to-back byes last weekend, I'm trying hard to avoid those, too!
I look forward to seeing all of you on September 12, 1998 at OAKS.
=======================================================================
NO ULTIMATE TIME. There will be no ultimate time at the tournament.
9:30 a.m. CAPTAIN'S MEETING
10:00 a.m. FIRST ROUND STARTS
12:00 noon FIRST ROUND ENDS
5:30 p.m. FIFTH ROUND STARTS
7:00 p.m. FIFTH ROUND ENDS (td or either captain may declare game OVER at or after 7PM)
There will be an end of round signal, discussed at the captain's meeting. It will likely be a LAST POINT HORN, meaning finish the point being played. If that point results in a TIE, the team that just scored gets the disc (without a pull, no subs except for injury subs) 20 yards from the endzone they are defending. Defense checks disc in.
Time permitting, games are to 11; semis may be played to 13, finals may be played to 15.
Your team will likely have a FIRST ROUND GAME and a LAST ROUND GAME.
Expect to STAY AND PLAY all scheduled games. *Don't bone anyone out of a game by leaving early.*
FORMAT:
DIVISIONS OF 5: 5 round complete round-robin.
DIVISIONS OF 6: 3 rounds of pool play (2 games per team); Semis (A1B2; B1A2); Finals and (A3B3).
DIVISIONS OF 7: 3 rounds of pool play. 4th: (A1B2, A2B1, A3B3); 5th:(A1B1, A2B2, A3B4).
DIVISIONS OF 8: 4 rounds of pool play. 5th: (A1B1, A2B2, A3B3).
LIKELY DIVISION SIZE: OPEN, COED:5; WOMEN: 6; COLLEGE: 9.
FIRST ROUND BYES - some first round byes may be announced next week.
NAVY will have the only pre-announced first-round bye in COLLEGE.
EM will have the only pre-announced first-round bye in WOMENS.
OPEN will not likely have a pre-announced first-round bye.
COED may have a pre-announced first-round bye, I'll know next week.
*If you've ever run a tourney, you know unannounced first round byes can be a necessary evil*

AFTER THE EVENT
Plan on hitting VALLEY FORGE BREWING COMPANY for dinner. Dinner and beers will run about $20-30 per person. Food is great, as is the beer. Owned and operated by Ultimate players. Another option is to stoke on pizza next door ($6-8), then slide into the VFBC for beers. There's also a Boston Market and one or two other joints in the same strip mall.
Look for VFBC coupons in your tourney packets!
Directions: 422E to 202S. Go about 1 mile and take DEVON EXIT (See Gateway Shopping Center and VFBC on your right as you exit). Go RIGHT at bottom of the ramp. Go around the Mobil station with two quick rights, and you are in the shopping center. VFBC is in the corner of the L. Less than 10 minutes from OAKS on the way back toward civilization!
